• May Favorites…

May is all about getting ready for summer right? Or at least getting my closet ready for summer. I have been on a major purge lately getting rid of things we don’t love or use anymore (read HERE), and my closet has been hit hard (more on that in a future post!)… so I need some fun replacements! Also, have been on a reading tear, I even got to meet the lovely sisters behind the Liv Constantine hit The Last Mrs. Parrish, #12 on the list! Without further ado… my May favorites! February can be a cold bleak month… especially in the Northeast. Thankfully it’s short… and thankfully we were in Bermuda for a week of it. So February, you really weren’t so bad! Below find my favorites from this month! (Click on the link for the coordinating number to shop item!) Iota The Great Big Game in The Teeny-Weeny Tin – This is such a fun little game! • Heart Health

Okay… serious topic time. February is Heart Health month. So let’s talk about it. Heart health is important to me… if you look at the picture above it is my Dad’s side of the family in the 80’s. My grandfather had a triple bypass and then a stent put in. My cousin, Lindsay (the beautiful bride), had a heart attack caused by SCAD which she survived two years ago. Pictured below is my maternal grandfather who died of a heart attack when he was 75. My father-in-law also had a stent and triple bypass surgery a few years back. And, most recently, I lost my brother, my best friend, this…

  • I need to walk and it’s getting cold…

This grieving thing is a tricky business. I recently read a particularly poignant article on A Cup Of Jo by the incredible Nora McInerny about grief and lipstick. Really, go read it. It totally explains why I feel the need to blow my hair dry and put on jeans instead of my uniform workout gear. She touched on a point that resonated with me (she lost her husband to brain cancer), she would soon be older than her husband ever was. I have never known a world without my big brothers. They have always looked out for me, their little sister. I now have to go on and live the rest of my…

  • It is the celery juice or the grief?

Okay, so I am edging my way back in to writing posts after a little time off … it is helpful. My brother, Thad, was incredibly supportive of A Modern Housewife. He loved to see me flexing my creative muscle and doing something that was fulfilling for myself. He also was the best advice giver and had given me some thoughts on different directions to take for content, so stay tuned. So the title of this post… Despite being exhausted, I psychically feel good. I feel leaner, lighter and stronger than I was a month ago. Is it that I have been drinking celery juice (most mornings) or that I…

  • Yoga Gear Refresh

After four weeks of weight training and a full week in Nantucket my body needs a break! I dialed up a practice yesterday morning with one of my favorite apps, Yoga Glo (Beachbody has some awesome streaming practices too!), and it was glorious! It reminded me just how much I need balance in my workouts. I tend to get focused and concentrate on one program but really I need weights, cardio, AND yoga to feel my best. I also realized I REALLY need to get some new yoga duds. I am constantly in workout gear, so obviously I like it to be polished enough to wear out for errands… Which…

  • Kale Salad For A Crowd

Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start of Summer- yay! It is also the start of all the fun potlucks and barbecues! We had a fun event last weekend, Comedy Night, where I brought a large enough kale salad to feed a crowd (20 people to be exact). This was a winner! You can dress it before you go, too; it makes it super easy. It also happens to be low fodmap friendly (obviously), and vegan as well! You can certainly scale back the size to just feed your family for the night. I’ve thrown in some chicken or grilled shrimp for a complete dinner. Kale Salad with Maple Mustard…
