• What To Wear For Thanksgiving 2019

Thanksgiving is a little over two weeks away! Do you know what you are wearing? I don’t! We are headed to my in-laws this year and despite my propensity to over plan and pack (way) ahead I can barely wrap my head around Thanksgiving being in 2 weeks! I love dressing up a bit for the holiday. We always used to when I was little and it seems like putting on your best clothes honors what a special day it is. Gathering with friends and family, taking a breath and taking note of how much you have to be grateful and thankful for. So here are some ideas of what…

  • Kearsley Lloyd on Sun Protection

Sun protection in the hot summer months is crucial! Beach time, golf courses, tennis matches, amusement parks; we all spend so much time outside! I am so excited to have my incredibly talented Rhode Island friend, Kearsley Lloyd share her wisdom today on A Modern Housewife! Kearsley now lives full time in Bermuda (yes, my other favorite place!) and is a graphic designer and artist. She specializes in custom designs, branding and illustrations. She has found a niche working with brides to create specialized logos, invitations and accessories for everything surrounding the big day, and creating monograms to carry with them beyond.     In addition she designs corporate logos, boat…

  • 4th of July Attire

The 4th is around the corner! We seem to always have a fun calendar of events around the 4th of July. Whether you have a relaxed block party, beach day planned, family BBQ or something a little fancier;  I have found festive pieces for the whole family! PS: Those red shades are $8!!! • Boca Beach Club and What I Really Packed For Spring Break!

After our Fall and Winter we really wanted to get away for a proper Spring Break. We needed some sunshine and some relaxation and not much else. But where to go? We rely heavily on Bermuda for getaways (why wouldn’t we!) but a friend recommended The Boca Beach Club, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel, when we couldn’t find anything else that peaked our interest.  Amazingly they had availability and the flights into West Palm Beach weren’t astronomical when we went to book… only two weeks ahead. Sold. What was appealing about the property is it is actually three hotels under one umbrella. You have access to the restaurants and activities at…

  • Cocktails: Boca Heat

Tequila and passion fruit. Match made in heaven. We had a marvelous time down at The Boca Beach Club over Spring Break… more on that later, as well as what I ended up really packing vs. what I packed in my dream suitcase … But at the resort they had a cocktail called the Boca Heat. The minute we took our first sip we know that it needed to be replicated at home. I have it close to perfect since passion fruit is not that easy to come by up here! The “heat” in this comes from the Jalapeno Tequila and the Ginger Liqueur, totally delightful and a great warm…

  • Packing for Spring Break!

Spring Break is almost here! Well for us in New England anyways! After what seemed to be a long (LONG) winter I am excited to take off for a few days and get a little Vitamin D! I have been giving my closet (well, house too) a major overhaul and I am finding so much of my clothing for warmer temps is the wrong size, out of style or just plain tired. I have been hunting for a few new things to add to my warm weather gear while I pack for Spring Break! I have added some work out gear (just in case, also good for that plane ride!),…

  • Bermuda

I will be honest. I put off writing this travel post for my beloved island of Bermuda. It was actually my brother Thad’s idea to incorporate more travel posts into A Modern Housewife’s space… specifically Bermuda as it was the first place he suggested I write about over a year ago. I’ve actually had a draft for “Bermuda” sitting for a year. Thad was a travel agent way back in the day before he went to graduate school for architecture. If you needed a trip planned, information on the best restaurant, what the most kid friendly spot was, ideas for an adventure, he had you covered. He was the…

  • February Favorites…

February can be a cold bleak month… especially in the Northeast. Thankfully it’s short… and thankfully we were in Bermuda for a week of it. So February, you really weren’t so bad! Below find my favorites from this month! Please note: A Modern Housewife LLC has affiliate relationships with multiple brands. • A Week Out West

We headed out to California for Christmas break for a change of scenery this year. My other brother and his family live in Marin County (north of San Francisco) and it was the perfect choice. What to do for Christmas week in Marin County, CA? Well most of this is what to do for any week in Marin County… but there is one very special Christmas stop we went to in San Francisco that I highly recommend! What I love about being out West is the emphasis that is put on being outdoors. The playgrounds and hiking trails are honestly the best. If you have elementary or younger aged kids…

  • What to wear for Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving has always been a favorite holiday in my family. This year we will be having a very low key family filled Thanksgiving and remembering what we are grateful for in this life. I am sure I will be wearing something comfortable and casual… but dressing up is fun too! It is only two weeks away so here are some ideas of what to wear when gathering for the holiday. The mixing of textures and fabrics is the key for these outfits. Velvet is so hot right now and give me a chunky knit any day! I also have a handful of friends heading to warmer climates for the holiday…
