• What to wear for Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving has always been a favorite holiday in my family. This year we will be having a very low key family filled Thanksgiving and remembering what we are grateful for in this life. I am sure I will be wearing something comfortable and casual… but dressing up is fun too! It is only two weeks away so here are some ideas of what to wear when gathering for the holiday. The mixing of textures and fabrics is the key for these outfits. Velvet is so hot right now and give me a chunky knit any day! I also have a handful of friends heading to warmer climates for the holiday…

  • FIELD + SUPPLY

Over Columbus weekend we ventured up to Kingston, New York to the FIELD + SUPPLY: A Modern Maker’s Craft Fair. I am trying to stay busy and we love finding new artists, designers and cool new things (obviously). This activity checked all the boxes. First, the Hutton Brickyard is a really fantastic venue. I could see this as an awesome spot for a wedding or even a blow out birthday party… they have “Glamping”!!! A band was playing in the background, there were lots of food offerings, craft beer and cocktails, fire pits and lively games of corn hole; it all created a festival atmosphere. There were a good amount…

  • Girls Weekend in Montauk

What could be better and more therapeutic than a weekend away with 9 of your favorite friends in the salt air? I was fortunate enough to meet a group of women shortly after moving out of NYC in a playgroup for my first born with whom I have remained incredibly close since almost day one. Talk about an incredible support system. This year was our 6th trip away together and we planned Montauk all the way back in January. We did have a bit of rain, but even the rain and grayness was perfect! We stayed at Gurney’s which is right on the beach… I mean check out my room!…

  • It is the celery juice or the grief?

Okay, so I am edging my way back in to writing posts after a little time off … it is helpful. My brother, Thad, was incredibly supportive of A Modern Housewife. He loved to see me flexing my creative muscle and doing something that was fulfilling for myself. He also was the best advice giver and had given me some thoughts on different directions to take for content, so stay tuned. So the title of this post… Despite being exhausted, I psychically feel good. I feel leaner, lighter and stronger than I was a month ago. Is it that I have been drinking celery juice (most mornings) or that I…

  • Travel…

We are taking off for February break tomorrow and are lucky enough to be venturing somewhere warmer than the North East. We are SO excited! That travel day… it can be daunting right? Kids and air travel can be tricky. I have been stuck on an airplane and in an airport with a toddler for hours; you want to be ready for anything. I find that when I am traveling solo with the kids if I over prepare I don’t feel so anxious. This means starting to pack a week ahead of time and maybe to obsessively over planning. It drives my husband crazy, but it works. So, since I…

  • My Instant Pot Review

Behold the mighty Instant Pot. If you follow me on social media then you are aware that I love it… I mean, okay, it is bordering on an obsession. My Brother and Sister-In-Law gave me the Instant Pot DUO80 for Christmas and I could not wait to get back home to use it. It came out of the box a couple of days before the New Year and it has taken up residence on my kitchen counter ever since. It is used almost every day and sometimes multiple times a day. It seems to do EVERYTHING. It is part pressure cooker, part yogurt maker, part rice maker and part slow cooker.…

  • Backpacks. Yay or nay?

We’ve gone on an adventure of some sort every weekend with the kids and each time I’ve noticed just how annoying it is to carry a tote bag. You are chasing or carrying kids, it’s constantly slipping down your shoulder and, for the love of God, that bag is HEAVY! What’s my latest solution? A backpack – really??? At first I cringed at the thought..why not just totally geek out and get a fanny pack.  It seems though, that I have missed the boat because backpacks appear to be IN. I did a quick search online and there are some really stylish ones out there… and some really expensive ones,…

  • My Favorite Cookbooks…

Most asked question? Of me anyways… “What is your favorite cookbook?” That is a TOUGH question. I could never pick ONE favorite… I have a cookbook obsession. I have A LOT of cookbooks. Truthfully, I read them like I read novels. I am quite content to curl up on the couch with a cookbook and read. It could be a brand new purchase, one checked from the library or one I have had for years. I love them. I love thinking about the way ingredients work together and how to implement the different methods of cooking. Let’s not overlook the gorgeous photography and clever layouts in these books. Some…

  • Everything But The Bagel Salt with Dill

Everything Bagel Salt. It is everywhere, no? It’s topping avocado toast, fried eggs, cream cheese on a bagel… I mean the possibilities are endless. So why not make it at home? Forget the fact that it is more economical in the long run, it makes for a great little hostess gift. This one here is a little different because I have added a little dill to it. Trust me,  it is amazing in my current egg salad obsession which you can find right here. I tried a version of Everything Bagel Salt with dill and knew I needed to recreate it at home! Everything But The Bagel Salt with Dill…

  • Egg Salad with Persian Cucumbers & Everything But The Bagel Salt

Egg Salad with Persian Cucumbers & Everything But The Bagel Salt I created this one day when I was STARVING without lunch prepared, in a rush, a car full of groceries and with a sleeping kid in the car. I was able to make this in the time it took me to unload the groceries from the car! The star is my Everything But The Bagel Salt seasoning. The dill with the cucumber in the salad gives you a bit of a pickle taste that is perfect! The seasoning is just so good and so simple to make. Great for avocado toast, celery with cream cheese or deviled eggs! Ingredients:…
