• Week Ten Coronavirus Hiatus: Uhhh?

Well, I am sort of at a loss here. Week TEN? Seriously? I said it last week, I have no new words of wisdom or fun projects to suggest because at this point we are all trying to just make it work right? Balance every last thing and still keep the house clean? I have to be honest, this truly hasn’t been bad for us, not at all. I LOVE that we are all home together and we have enjoyed the baking, the crafts, the outdoor play, the family movie nights, the small home projects… but we miss our family and our friends. School, dinners out, movies at the theater…

  • Wild Rice Salad

I posted a photo on my Instagram Stories the other day of an old school Wild Rice Salad that I have made for YEARS. My DM inbox blew up with requests for the recipe. Okay, people love wild rice! Honestly, it is difficult to write this one up because I don’t measure for this one. I just make it with what I have around and taste as I go. The good news is it means this recipe is VERY flexible. A wild rice blend, artichoke hearts, vinaigrette and mayo (yes, mayonnaise- I know this can be a polarizing ingredient!) are the back bone of this one! Play around with the…

  • Tangy Lime Dressing

We love a taco around here… and I love being able to make a vegetable side for tacos (or to put in tacos!) which my kids will actually eat! Coleslaw or a chopped kale salad is always a win! This dressing is PERFECT on cabbage or shredded kale… even raw brussel sprouts. Actually, a raw broccoli salad with a little red onion would be awesome too! Don’t forget it as a marinade… I threw some on chicken for the grill tonight- so good!         Please note: A Modern Housewife LLC has affiliate relationships with multiple brands. • Tahini Dressing

A little magic tahini salad dressing to start the weekend off right. Today I’m heading out for a long weekend on a girl’s trip (how lucky am I? More on the trip later!) so I thought I’d stock the fridge/freezer up a bit for my family.  So besides ice cream, hamburgers and other treats I have our favorite Easy Chicken Parmesan and Pork Ragù ready to be reheated along with loads of fresh lettuce and this dressing. What’s an easier vegetable side than a salad? Not much. Throw in some cucumber, chopped tomatoes and an avocado and you are good to go. I nailed down the recipe for this tahini…

  • My Own Magic Green Sauce

Okay, a Pinch Of Yum’s 5 Minute Magic Green Sauce is really… well… magical. I love it and would put it on anything and everything (make it, really!)… BUT, my oldest has a sensitivity to pistachios and parsley (I know, so odd) and has a really awful reaction… so it doesn’t work for family dinner. And actually, neither does the jalapeño… This means I needed to make my own version of this sauce that is friendly to my house, and my kids gobbled it up! My Own Magic Green Sauce   Ingredients:  2 Bunches of cilantro cleaned and rough chopped (stems too!) 1 Medium/large avocado or 2 small avocados 1/2…

  • Chipotle-Lime Caramelized Cherry Tomatoes

This week was no less of a blur than last week… where did it go? What happened? It’s conference week here for schools which means half-days (or no school for my youngest!) so it always changes the pace of the week. I did NOT get to my Bermuda post… it’s coming, I promise! I did, however, get to go to a super fun book signing this week for the FABULOUS organizing book The Home Edit at my very talented friend’s store Kirby & Company. Authors/Creators Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin were so lovely! If you don’t follow them on Instagram, you should! I have devoured the book and can’t wait…

  • Quick Peanut Sauce

I have had a lot of requests for the recipe for this peanut sauce that I throw together so I finally measured it out! I love having this on hand for those awesome vegetable rolls I buy at the grocery or for any grilled meat. Soba noodles (or zoodles) pair perfectly with it and thinly sliced cucumbers and carrots tossed with it make a pretty fabulous salad. I like how this all comes together in one bowl… and I’m lazy and use garlic powder which omits the cutting board and knife (and truly blends in better too!). Quick Peanut Sauce Ingredients: 1 Cup smooth natural peanut butter (I like Teddies)…

  • Kale Salad For A Crowd

Memorial Day Weekend is the unofficial start of Summer- yay! It is also the start of all the fun potlucks and barbecues! We had a fun event last weekend, Comedy Night, where I brought a large enough kale salad to feed a crowd (20 people to be exact). This was a winner! You can dress it before you go, too; it makes it super easy. It also happens to be low fodmap friendly (obviously), and vegan as well! You can certainly scale back the size to just feed your family for the night. I’ve thrown in some chicken or grilled shrimp for a complete dinner. Kale Salad with Maple Mustard…

  • Orange & Cardamom Vinaigrette

So I am a sucker for a new product at Trader Joe’s… always perfectly displayed and priced so well that you don’t mind taking a flyer on something new. Sometimes they are misses, but not often. When I saw the new Pomegranate Vinegar the other week I had to get it! Anything to inspire a new salad dressing! After a bit of brainstorming I have come up with a great dressing for your Fall salads! Orange & Cardamom Vinaigrette 1/2 Cup Olive Oil 1/4 Cup Pomegranate Vinegar (if you can not find this you could swap red wine vinegar or even raspberry vinegar) 1 to 2 Garlic Cloves (depending on…

  • Chipotle – Lime Dressing

I can barely even take any credit for this dressing. I planned to make “Jalapeño – Lime Dressing” from Kathryne Taylor’s new book LOVE REAL FOOD but the store was out of jalapeños… but they did have a can of chipotle in adobo sauce. I figured I’d give the swap a shot;  it was smokey and tart and just awesome! Delightful happy accident! Chipotle – Lime Dressing 1/2 cup olive oil 1/2 cup lime juice 1/2  to 1 whole chipotle pepper in adobo sauce. Depends on your desired heat level. 1 tablespoon honey 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard 1 garlic clove smashed 1/4 teaspoon Sea Salt Combine…
