• Maple Peach Crisp

I came down on Sunday morning to find our brand new peaches already starting to spoil… even though they weren’t ripe! Heat and no air conditioning is not produces’ friend unfortunately. I hate wasting food so what better thing to make but a crisp? A close riff on my favorite Bourbon Apple Crisp… it’s delicious and I couldn’t wait until dessert… I had it for breakfast for with coconut yogurt and blueberries. Perfection.

  • Brown Butter Cereal Bars

Looking to make something super easy, super satisfying and probably already have everything in your kitchen?  I got you! These are upgraded “Krispie” treats with decadent browned butter and a touch of salt. You can really use any plain cereal here… Chex, Cheerios, Rice Krispies, Corn Flakes etc etc. I’d stay away from fruit flavored cereals, but chocolate would work! Last time we made this we used a combo of Cheerios and Rice Chex!

  • Bourbon Apple Crisp

Apple crisp. Talk about a dessert that is a hit any season. Summer BBQ’s, Fall gatherings, Winter holidays and Spring brunches. This one is extra special with addition of bourbon, it adds a little more depth!  The gluten free topping is so buttery and delicious! Serving with vanilla ice cream is definitely encouraged.

  • Week Eight Coronavirus Hiatus: The Corona Kitchen File

Week EIGHT. That feels really bananas. That means, in the house, we have had weeks and weeks of cooking. Breakfast, lunch & dinner. We have only had a handful of take out nights- those nights really feel like a vacation… and we should probably do it more. We have already discussed the ins and outs of getting groceries delivered a few weeks ago… I think it has gotten easier to get everything you need delivered! (Read here: Week Five Coronavirus Hiatus: Grocery Games) I have been receiving a lot of questions about what I am cooking and pleas for ideas.  So here we go… this time has given me the…

  • Best Ever Dark Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

I finally mastered the perfect dark chocolate buttercream frosting! Not too sweet (yes, that is a thing), perfectly chocolaty and smooth! Super simple and very easy. This batch will frost a two layer 9 inch cake or 24 cupcakes with a little leftover… and you know what? You can freeze buttercream frosting! Seriously! Pop that bit of leftover frosting in the freezer for when you have a frosting emergency… that exists right?           Please note: A Modern Housewife LLC has affiliate relationships with multiple brands. • Sweet & Spicy Pecans

Okay, is it just me or do the Holidays seem like a full on contact sport this year? So much to do and everyone is in a rush! I almost got slammed backing out of a parking spot today… It makes me want to hole up in my house watch Christmas movies and bake all things Christmas! These nuts fit nicely into that category! My mom used to make something similar as a kid and I loved them. I can’t take credit for these delicious pecans, I found the recipe on Smitten Kitchen (she is fabulous… check her out! Her latest cookbook made my November Favorites and My Holiday Wishlist!)…

  • S’mores Oreo Bark

Are you looking for an easy no bake Summer (or any season!) sweet treat that both kids AND adults will love? Look no further. This recipe is the bomb.   S’mores Oreo Bark Ingredients: 3 1/2 Cups dark chocolate chips or chopped dark chocolate pieces 1/2 Cup white chocolate chips or chopped white chocolate pieces 1 Cup marshmallow Fluff 12 Oreos (for gluten free I like Glutino) 4 Graham Cracker Sheets (for gluten free I like Pamela’s) Instructions: Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Melt 1 1/2 cup of the dark chocolate chips in the a microwave safe bowl (I like to use a Pyrex measuring cup) and pour melted…

  • Strawberry Orange Breakfast Cake

The local market here has a table tucked in the back for “last chance” fruits and vegetables. Very (VERY) ripe fruit and on their way out vegetables- perfect for baking (or soup making in the winter). The other day they had strawberries for $0.99 so I knew I needed to bake something! Cookie & Kate has a recipe for Lemony Blueberry Cake in her cookbook that I’ve been dying to try but my kids are still anti blueberry. In come the over ripe strawberries! This is a direct adaptation of her recipe just swapping out the flavors a bit. I felt like orange would go better with strawberries than lemon!…

  • Pina Colada Ice Cream (Dairy Free)

If you like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain… who doesn’t love that Rupert Holmes song? My kids love it AND they love Pina Coladas, virgin of course, and fully proved that over vacation. They were immediately requested when we returned home despite not having a pool to enjoy them next to. We have been experimenting with vegan ice creams ( I still need to write up the Strawberry Chocolate Chip one!) thanks to The Faux Martha’s INCREDIBLE Black Vegan Ice Cream recipe. You guys, it is JUST. SO. GOOD. I didn’t set out to find a vegan/dairy free ice cream but her recipe popped up in my…
