• Best Ever Dark Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

I finally mastered the perfect dark chocolate buttercream frosting! Not too sweet (yes, that is a thing), perfectly chocolaty and smooth! Super simple and very easy. This batch will frost a two layer 9 inch cake or 24 cupcakes with a little leftover… and you know what? You can freeze buttercream frosting! Seriously! Pop that bit of leftover frosting in the freezer for when you have a frosting emergency… that exists right?           Please note: A Modern Housewife LLC has affiliate relationships with multiple brands. • Quick Pickles

We love pickles around here. It is so easy to make a quick pickle and it elevates any dish. Tacos, salads, burgers, stir-fry, rice bowls, sandwiches… okay I will stop. The tang and crunch of a quick pickle just makes everything taste better! We love keeping red onion quick pickles in the fridge (my kids LOVE them) but don’t stop at red onions. Carrots, radishes, cucumbers (obviously), green beans, cauliflower… so many options! I usually double the batch of vinegar and make two different types at once! I use honey here as a sweetener because I always try and go the less refined route, but I really like the earthiness…

  • Easy Hors d’oeuvres…

Okay… the Holidays are busy! We still entertain or have to show up with a little something for all the fun gatherings, right? I have a few never fail hors d’oeuvres that are as simple as grabbing a few things at the store and assembling. Okay, one requires a little stove time, but it is SO easy and can double as dinner… perfect if you’re headed to a cocktail party. Leave some home for your kids with the sitter. You just need a pretty tray or bowl for serving… I rounded up a few of those below too!   Jazzed up hummus Store bought hummus Olive Oil Smoked paprika Chips…

  • Cocktails: Habanero Harvest

A warming, spiced and spicy cocktail, sign me up! A simple syrup made with classic Fall flavors and a habanero gives you an earthy and spicy base for this fun Fall drink. Halloween parties, Thanksgiving gathering… or just a Friday night! I went with tequila here because it is my favorite but you could also use mezcal, bourbon, vodka or even a spiced rum! One word of caution, habaneros can be HOT. I first made this allowing the habanero to soak for 15 minutes… good but very spicy. I went back and reduced the time to 5 minutes, but if you like it hot adjust accordingly! The syrup would also…

  • Easy Banana Blueberry Muffins

I may have gotten my kids to end their long loathing of blueberries… seriously, who hates blueberries? They are so sweet and delicious! Granted, I have a serious love of blueberry muffins that stems from childhood Sundays (thanks, Dad!). I figured if I tucked blueberries into Thad’s Banana Bread and turned them into muffins they couldn’t really complain… I was right! Perfect for a lazy Sunday and then for a rushed Monday morning! Enjoy!   Easy Banana Blueberry Muffins (Makes 12) Ingredients: 3 to 4 Very ripe bananas (lots of dark spots & amount depends on how big the banana is! ) 1 1/2 Cup gluten free flour (I like…

  • 30 Minute Pork Ragu with Balsamic Roasted Vegetables

I posted a super simple yet EPIC Pork Ragu on my Instagram Stories last night and have gotten a bajillion questions… I guess everyone is in the “Back To School, Back To Work, It’s No Longer Summer Rules” schedule too. So let me write out the “recipe”, if one can even call it that, here! So what is a Ragu? Per Wikipedia “In Italian cuisine, ragù is a meat-based sauce that is commonly served with pasta. Ragù was created by Alberto Alvisi in the 18th century. An Italian gastronomic society, Accademia Italiana della Cucina, documented several ragù recipes.“ For me, it’s the simplest dinner. Ever. Super speedy and super tasty.…

  • Chipotle-Lime Caramelized Cherry Tomatoes

This week was no less of a blur than last week… where did it go? What happened? It’s conference week here for schools which means half-days (or no school for my youngest!) so it always changes the pace of the week. I did NOT get to my Bermuda post… it’s coming, I promise! I did, however, get to go to a super fun book signing this week for the FABULOUS organizing book The Home Edit at my very talented friend’s store Kirby & Company. Authors/Creators Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin were so lovely! If you don’t follow them on Instagram, you should! I have devoured the book and can’t wait…

  • Primal Palate Rice & Chicken in the Instant Pot

I love Primal Palate Spice blends- gluten free, non GMO, Whole 30 approved, ORGANIC… the list goes on and on. They are such a great company and they really make it easy to pull a flavorful dinner together FAST. I have been playing around with their blends for a while now and have finally perfected Chicken and Rice in the Instant Pot.  The best part of this recipe is that you can use any of their blends and then adjust the vegetables and toppings to suit the flavor profile. A one pot wonder! My favorite is the Super Gyro that is used in this recipe… and wait, also the Adobo.…

  • Smoky Turkey Chili (No beans!)(In the Instant Pot!)

Okay all my Instant Pot fans… this is SO GOOD. And so very perfect for these blustery cold days. It is FRIGID where I live! Who doesn’t crave comfort food in the winter? This is also a perfect recipe for a Super Bowl upcoming shindig- who are you rooting for? Sometimes we are pro bean in this household… sometimes anti. So I love that this is a no bean chili that gets bulked up a bit with addition of zucchini (I promise your kids won’t know it’s there!). When you peel and seed the zucchini it allows it to break down and become for of a thickener to the chili. It’s…
