• My Own Magic Green Sauce

Okay, a Pinch Of Yum’s 5 Minute Magic Green Sauce is really… well… magical. I love it and would put it on anything and everything (make it, really!)… BUT, my oldest has a sensitivity to pistachios and parsley (I know, so odd) and has a really awful reaction… so it doesn’t work for family dinner. And actually, neither does the jalapeño… This means I needed to make my own version of this sauce that is friendly to my house, and my kids gobbled it up! My Own Magic Green Sauce   Ingredients:  2 Bunches of cilantro cleaned and rough chopped (stems too!) 1 Medium/large avocado or 2 small avocados 1/2…

  • Pina Colada Ice Cream (Dairy Free)

If you like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain… who doesn’t love that Rupert Holmes song? My kids love it AND they love Pina Coladas, virgin of course, and fully proved that over vacation. They were immediately requested when we returned home despite not having a pool to enjoy them next to. We have been experimenting with vegan ice creams ( I still need to write up the Strawberry Chocolate Chip one!) thanks to The Faux Martha’s INCREDIBLE Black Vegan Ice Cream recipe. You guys, it is JUST. SO. GOOD. I didn’t set out to find a vegan/dairy free ice cream but her recipe popped up in my…

  • Honey Orange Buckwheat Pancakes

We recently went into the city to see The Warhol Exhibit before it left The Whitney. Being an Art History major in college I was thrilled to get to see it… I wrote my senior thesis on comparing and contrasting Warhol and Pollock. I digress… the kids seemed to enjoy it and I was thrilled when my oldest brought up one of the pieces toward the end of the next week; “Mom, do you think I could do a self portrait like the green one… we could set it up like…”.   But what they REALLY enjoyed was the lunch we grabbed after. We found a little gem called The…

  • Wooden Spoon Sloppy Joes

My oldest asked if we could make sloppy joes after flipping through a kid’s cookbook. Meat, check. Sauce, check. Bun, check. What more could a kid ask for? I was immediately thrown back to “hot lunch” day at my small day school in Maryland. I think those Joes either came from a can or a McCormick spice pack. So, yes, my answer was “of course we can make these from scratch my dear!”. I started looking around for a good recipe and every single one had way too many steps and way too many measurements. I don’t need to get that many kitchen items dirty to make this simple dinner…

  • March Favorites…

I can not believe it is the end of March. The temperature is actually starting to rise. The birds are chirping,  the flowers are trying to peek out and Spring Break is around the corner! I am pumped to open the windows and let the fresh air in! This month was chock full of fevers, viruses, bugs and antibiotics for this household. It stunk. So this month’s favorites have a bit of homebody/kids undertone!   (Click on item name to shop!) 1. Escape This Book! Titanic by Bill Doyle and Sarah Sax – My 2nd grader DEVOURED this book. It has different paths you can take to get to the end…

  • Dark Chocolate Breakfast Pudding

Okay… so this isn’t really pudding. It’s an overnight oats recipe, but my kids call it “breakfast pudding” so that’s what I’m going with. Such an easy recipe. Make a batch in individual jars at the start of the week and you are good to go for a few days! The key is the Special Dark Cocoa Powder (who else loved that miniature Hershey’s bar when they were a kid?) – it makes it that much more decadent. You can certainly use regular cocoa powder if you don’t want to add another to your pantry but we love it! Dark Chocolate Breakfast Pudding (Makes 2 servings and can be multiplied easily)…

  • Chipotle-Lime Caramelized Cherry Tomatoes

This week was no less of a blur than last week… where did it go? What happened? It’s conference week here for schools which means half-days (or no school for my youngest!) so it always changes the pace of the week. I did NOT get to my Bermuda post… it’s coming, I promise! I did, however, get to go to a super fun book signing this week for the FABULOUS organizing book The Home Edit at my very talented friend’s store Kirby & Company. Authors/Creators Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin were so lovely! If you don’t follow them on Instagram, you should! I have devoured the book and can’t wait…

  • Bacon & Cheese Hash Brown… Waffles

Hash brown waffles. They are a thing and they are all over Pinterest and Instagram. We had to try them. Thad and I would have made these together (and loved them). We had a mutual love for McDonald’s hash browns (come on, you know they are THE BEST) starting at an early age. It was always the biggest treat when my mom would wheel through the drive-thru for those. Unbelievably, this past weekend marked 6 months of his being gone.  This felt like the perfect thing to make for Sunday dinner in a small nod to him. I turned to The Pioneer Woman, Ree Drummond, for a fail proof recipe.…

  • Morning Glory Muffins

There is a place in RI called Allie’s Donuts… they make the BEST Morning Glory muffins I have ever had. When I was a teenager in the summer my mom used to bring me one every Monday morning when she stopped on her way back from dropping my dad off at the airport. It was chewy, sweet, hearty, sort of earthy and felt healthy. Perhaps my first foray into “health food”… I loved them and I wasn’t even a raisin person! Looking back they probably were not all that healthy but I digress. I thought of them the other day and figured I must be able to make my own…

  • Cinnamon “Latte”

Okay… this drink is my favorite… borderline obsession and I have it for breakfast on days I don’t have time for eggs. I also make it with decaf chai tea for an afternoon pick me up. This recipe may seem familiar… I posted it about a year ago and SOMEHOW it got deleted from my website. It seems a sweet child MAY have deleted it when they were doing homework on my computer. Oh well. I’ve chatted about the Cinnamon “Latte” (aka power protein morning special) a few times recently so I thought it needed to be reposted! I gave up coffee almost two years ago (wow), but I’m not…
